David DesRochers Bio

David DesRochers is a photographer based in Cranford, New Jersey.  His body of work encompasses a variety of subjects and his work has appeared in books, magazines, brochures, newspapers and on Cranford’s Patch.com.   But his true passion is photographing subjects in our natural world.

David’s love for nature photography was sparked by a trip to Glacier National Park in the summer of 2000.  The beauty of Glacier’s landscape inspired him to want to explore more wild places and over the years he has backpacked to remote areas in the Northeast and traveled around the world to photograph a wide range of wildlife and landscapes.

Photographing nature also inspired David to become an advocate for our environment.  He is a member of Cranford’s Environmental Commission and Green Team and manages their web site www.mygreencranford.org.

David is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association and has been recently appointed president in New Jersey’s premiere nature photography club Camera Naturalist Photo Club.

David DesRochers: Artist’s Statement

I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful places on the planet.  I’ve marveled at the vastness of our western National Parks and studied the subtle beauty of the Adirondacks and Hudson Valley.  The wildlife of Africa and the Galapagos Islands amazed me but I have also been inspired by the creatures that share my home town of Cranford.

“Avian Quartet” represents four small birds that were photographed on two sides of the world.  I traveled thousands of miles to Tanzania to capture images of the African Bee Eater and Lilac-breasted Roller and only one mile from home to photograph the Tree Sparrow and Eastern Blue Bird.    All were photographed in their natural habitat using a 500 MM lens and I took care not to infringe on their space or interfere with their natural behavior.

The Adirondacks is one of my favorite areas to explore.   “Blue Mountain Lake” and “Marcy Dam” were created from multiple images merged together in Photoshop CS5.    In both cases, I waited for hours for just the right lighting conditions.

“Sky Reflection” is another Adirondack photograph taken late in the day.   The still water and brilliant blue sky with clouds helped create the illusion that the grasses are floating in the sky.   Nomahegan Park was my choice when I created “Autumn Reflections. “   The wind created movement in the water which helped create an impressionist look to the trees reflecting in the lake.

“White Cedars” and “Ferns” are different interpretations of intimate Adirondack landscapes.   The pattern of the “Ferns” against a lone tree was captured with my camera on a tripod.   I used subtle camera motion to create blur in the “White Cedars.”

All of the photographs in this exhibit were taken in areas that have been protected from development.  The pressures of a growing population are putting pressure on the wild places that remain.   My hope is that you will enjoy our exhibit and be inspired to explore our natural world and do your part to protect it.

Denise Graff

Denise Graff's bio

Denise Graff, born in Trenton, NJ, is excited to bring her art to a new level. Over the years Denise has tried to capture her love of nature, life and music through her cameras lens.  Working in corporate America as a technical professional for 19 years, she had been told she missed her calling.  Life made the decision for Denise, due to illness, she left her career to study under professional photographers such as Nancy Ori, Joan Pamboukes, Peter Lester and Don Polzo at the Visual Arts Center of NJ.  Five years focusing on more creative endeavors has proven to be very rewarding.  Denise has previously showcased her work through Artists with Disabilities, a Student Abstract show at The Visual Art Center of NJ, and Art For Art’s Sake at Gallery 125 in Trenton, NJ.

Artist Statement
I feel great wonder and joy in the world around me.  In awe of what I find in nature, I love the land, plants, patterns, and little corners of the world that I discover in my frequent wanderings there.  Thus, my work ranges from sweeping landscapes to images of the often overlooked, but exquisitely beautiful, details of nature.  Throughout, I attempt to incorporate a sense of design that is either inherent in the subject matter or effected by composition choice.

While my imagination is captivated by “found” artistry, I also believe a photographer may use the tools and techniques available to create expressive images.  I am open to using the camera in non-traditional ways as well as to fully using the tools of the digital darkroom to develop my images to match my vision, both inner and outer.

I would like the viewing of my photographs to be a rich experience, evoking emotion and stimulating the imagination. Ultimately, I hope that my work allows viewers to be touched by the magic and beauty that is always around us.

Jacki Dickert's Bio

Jacki Dickert grew up playing in the woods, climbinJacki Dickertg trees, and believing in magic. A child of a nature photographer, she informally studied the art her whole life.  Jacki began seriously crafting her own photographic images about 5 years ago, after a trip to the visually stunning country of Iceland convinced her to find a way to present the wondrous beauty of the world for others to experience.  This magnificence she finds in all wild places, from exotic locales to the little strip of woods near her own backyard.  An ecstatic wanderer at heart, Jacki photographs with an openness to the present moment and a keen awareness of the world around her.  Imagination is her friend.  Her images have been showcased at several nature centers and galleries in New Jersey.  An elementary school teacher by day, this Winfield Park resident also teaches extracurricular photography classes to children and adults.

Susan Barnes' Bio

Susan Barnes, a native of New Jersey, has been painting in oils actively since the mid 1990's. The artist's interest in art began early, influenced by a grandmother who was a graduate of Pratt Institute and also a painter.

Although Barnes began painting over thirty years ago, her career took a different direction while raising her children. During that period she designed and created handwrought jewelry in silver and gold, which was sold through several galleries in South Jersey.

In 1995 she returned to painting starting with pastels before returning to oils.

Painting is my passion.
What attracts me are scenes infused with mood and atmosphere.

The landscape of New Jersey is my primary focus.   My love of the coastal areas began in chilhood with summers spent at the Jersey shore.  I paint in oil both en plein air, which is an exhilarating and challenging experience that feeds my soul, and in my Medford studio.

Representaional with loose visible brushstrokes and the intent to covey feeling is how I describe my painting style.  I want the viewer to be able to feel the sun and smell the sea.

Jenna Lonczak realized this when she was just a toddler, trying on her mother's jewelry.  However, as she grew older, Jenna realized that the jewelry that was available, the necklaces with messages like "Hope", "Dream" and "Love," weren't accurately representing her- or her generation.  Jenna knew that she needed to create something new and memorable, jewelry that would have a touch of humor, whimsy, and imagination.

Centipede Style jewelry has the power to create moods, provoke opinions, and produce reactions. Nowadays, women want their jewelry just like everything else to multitask, in this case, look beautiful and convey a message. This online store represents the many unique pieces that Centipede Style offers to today's young women.

About the Designer:
Jenna Lonczak created this line of emoticon and text message designs as a high school student.  In the fall of 2010, she will be attending Syracuse University to study jewelry design, metals and business at the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

“COLOR PATHS”

                          THEODOSIA A. G. TAMBORLANE
                                   ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The use of dynamic colors and the expression of movement are hallmarks of my paintings.  The colors I choose are independently selected and randomly mixed for each painting.

Most of my paintings take shape as the mixed paint is moved over paper or canvas.  The teachings of Hans Hofmann compel me to allow “form to exist through color.”

Multiple colors move through each of the oil paintings, taking the viewer along many and varied paths to visions both expected and unexpected.  Images emerge slowly “like ears of corn when husks are pulled away.”

Central to this show is the painting, “We Were,” a four foot by six foot diptych which presents individual lives and spirits. My colors in this unique painting express our spiritual contacts and connections among yesterday, today, and the future.

Recently, I have determined that I can best depict  turbulent times and natural forces with three dimensional collage oil paintings.  “Color Paths” presents several of my new three dimensional collage paintings for the first time.
